Leaving Home
Preparing to leave the nest
As your senior approaches graduation, he or she approaches the next stage
of life – a stage with much more responsibility. No doubt parents have
already passed on a great deal of valuable lessons, but there may be a few
things seniors still need to learn.
In Addition, the following will go a long way to easing the transition from high school
to the “adult world.”
- Can your senior do the laundry?
- Does your senior know how to get stains
out?
- Does your senior know how to iron?
- Can your senior cook the basics?
- Does your senior know when to perform
routine maintenance on their car?
- Does your senior have a checking
account?
- Can your senior balance their checking account and budget?
- Does your
senior understand that bills must be paid by the due date to avoid
a late fee?
- Does your senior understand the problems associated with
credit card debt?
- Has your senior ever shopped for groceries?
- Does your senior know when
and how to write a thank you note?
- Has your senior made their own
doctor or dentist appointment?
- Does your senior know how to fill
a prescription?
- Does your senior have a tool set – and
know what each item is for?
It’s not too late to take the time to teach seniors these things.
It might even be fun!
