Stay informed about college
Being well informed about college entrance exams, college applications, and financial support will make this year much easier. There are many great books written to help college bound seniors. We recommend the following:

  • College Countdown, A Planning Guide For High School Students 4th edition, by Helen H. Heron. You can order it on line for $19.95 at www.heronpub.com. A friendly, easy-to-follow guide that helps students prepare for college and secure financial aid.
  • Barrons’s Profiles of American Colleges
  • Peterson’s Guide to Four Year Colleges
  • Peterson’s Guide to Two Year Colleges
  • The Princeton Review: The Best 331 Colleges
  • The Complete Book of Colleges covers over 1,500 accredited four-year colleges in the U.S.
  • Student Athlete’s Guide to College - a game plan to competing in NCAA sports.
  • The K & W Guide to Colleges for the Learning Disabled

The Internet is another good source. There are hundreds of sites to investigate using your search engine. Here is the short list of sites that have been helping seniors for many years.

  • www.review.com This site has a lot of information on colleges, financial aid. It is unique in that it includes technical colleges and graduate school programs.
  • www.ed.gov United States Department of Education
  • www.nacac.com National Association for College Admission Counseling includes a wide variety of information and resources
  • www.collegeboard.com This site provides a customized comparison tool that charts out the colleges of your choice. This chart includes application test requirements
  • www.collegenet.com includes information and links to over 1500 colleges. It also includes information on financial aid and scholarships. It offers customized Internet admissions applications for colleges and universities. When applying to more than one college, your student will save redundant typing since common data automatically travels from form to form.
  • www.collegeparents.org College Parents of America (CPA) is similar to the PTA. You may join for $25. Many resources are available at their site for non-members.
