The pride and spirit program gives staff members the opportunity to reward students who are making a difference on campus. Students are given the coupons for exhibiting pride in Don Lugo. This may be in the form of throwing away trash, being a good citizen in class, or for any reason that the staff member chooses to honor the student. A sheet of four coupons is given to every staff member each week. Students deposit the coupons in a box in the activities office. Each week four to six coupons are drawn and those students are given gift certificates to local businesses or school spirit items. The names of the pride and spirit winners for each week are announced in the bulletin along with the name of the staff member who gave out the certificate.

At the final Renaissance awards assembly all pride and spirit coupons are placed in a drum and at various times throughout the assembly coupons are drawn. Winners are given major prizes donated by local businesses and school prizes such as yearbooks. The winner and the staff member are both given a prize. Students look forward to seeing who wins the major prizes such as a T.V., yearbook, stereo and dinner for two at a local restaurant. Everyone enjoys the recognition given to staff and students for showing pride and spirit on campus.
